“Mooselane Design came about from my need to be creative. This might sound obvious, but I had been on maternity leave for almost a year and all the colourful children’s books worked as an inspiration for me. One evening, whilst visiting my family (on mooselane…), I sat down at the kitchen table and started drawing. Although I have done courses in graphic design and textile design, I did my degree in Product Design at the Glasgow School of Art. After graduating I felt the need for a break and went for more branding related work, until I felt that craving for creativity coming back and I started drawing again. I soon decided to set up Mooselane Design with the motto “we create fun, playful designs and patterns on otherwise ordinary homeware products.” (via Marika Ukonaho of Mooselane Design | Design Juices)
“Textures are a running theme throughout my work. I spent a large proportion of my time at University experimenting with traditional print techniques, creating a reference of textures to work from on future projects. This experimental approach saw my work receive the Graphic Design Northern Design Award in 2010. In the interest of time, my process has since evolved into a blend of analogue and digital techniques. Having graduated from Sheffield Hallam University in 2010 I took the opportunity to travel. Travelling allowed me to gain a clearer understanding of different cultures and how design is tackled around the world. I gain inspiration from the vitality of travelling, in addition to being inspired by a variety of illustrators, designers and street artists such as David Carson, Eric Carle, Kid Acne, Telegramme Studio and many more.” (via Print Designer and Illustrator Seb Hepplewhite | Design Juices)
WHO IS VIRGINIA POLTRACK? HOW DID YOU GET INVOLVED IN THE CREATIVE INDUSTRIES?
My name is Virginia Poltrack, I’m an illustrator and designer from Johnstown, Pennsylvania, which is a small town east of Pittsburgh. I have been drawing for as long as I can remember. In fact, my first memory is of my father drawing a picture for me, and I remember watching him draw and thinking it was absolutely magic – I was completely captivated from that moment on. The tools I use consist mostly of my sketchbook, hot press watercolor paper, watercolor paint, HB and 3B lead, .005 and .01 Micron pens, glue, an exacto knife and a light blue colored pencil for rough “under drawings”.
WHAT ARE YOUR FAVOURITE PROJECTS TO COMPLETE AS AN ILLUSTRATOR? WHAT HAVE BEEN YOUR FAVOURITE PROJECTS TO COMPLETE IN RECENT MONTHS?
My favorite projects to work on are the personal ones – for example, I’ve done some custom illustrations that people give as gifts, which always means a lot to me. Also, working on custom tattoo designs for people is always a big honor, to know someone likes your work enough to have it put on them permanently! My favorite, though, is probably my early morning sketches that are just for fun. I try to start every day with a pencil sketch just for myself, anything I want to draw. I’m Jordan Andrew Carter illustration hustler/ graphic wizard. I graduated from Norwich University of the Arts last year and have set out as a freelance illustrator this year. My work is a blend of hand drawn sketches juxtaposed against strong colourful graphic elements to create something that looks like it is made from two processes or people. I’m inspired by both print and street art and like to think that bits from both have filtered down into my work and style. (via Freelance Illustrator Jordan Andrew Carter | Design Juices)

I graduated last year with a 1st Class Honours in Textiles and Surface Design and since then I have exhibited at New Designers in London and had my design work featured on trend website WGSN. Whilst studying, I exhibited at Premiere Vision trade show in Paris, and also at PrintSource, New York where I worked as a sales agent and sold one of my designs to the American retailer ‘Bealls of Florida’. I have completed internships with Zandra Rhodes in London and I also spent 3 months on a post-grad internship at Milly in New York in autumn 2012 where I got to experience daily life with a luxury fashion brand and assist at events such as New York fashion week. I am continuing to develop my own design work, whilst actively looking for full time employment within a design studio. (via Phillippa Copping Surface Pattern Design & Textiles | Design Juices)

The University of Illustration show took place today at Kraak Gallery in Manchester’s Northern Quarter, despite nearly getting myself lost I really loved the show. I’ve snapped a few pictures to show the great work that was on display and the student involved really pulled off a brilliant show. The show featured previous featured designs on the site; Sarah Van Gough & Harrison Edwards. (via University of Illustration at Kraak Gallery | Design Juices)
WHO IS SARAH VAN GOUGH?
I am a blue haired, coffee drinking illustrator/graphic designer based in Manchester! Also a self confessed gamer/geek. I’ve just finished my degree at the University of Salford, and ready and raring to jump into the creative world!
WHY DID YOU CHOSE TO BE INVOLVED IN THE CREATIVE INDUSTRIES?
I’m a big believer in doing what you enjoy for a living. Although I’d be very capable at doing something more ‘academic’, I simply wouldn’t be as interested/involved with it as much as I would drawing and designing. I also see it as a very enthusiastic and friendly field to be in, which always helps when it comes to inspiration and motivation.
WHO WERE YOUR FIRST CREATIVE INSPIRATIONS?
My first inspirations probably came from my love for music and film. Through what I listened to, I was introduced to some amazing artists who would work on album artwork/apparel designs for bands, such as Dan Mumford, illustrator for A Day to Remember, Parkway Drive and Trivium. And with film, Tim Burton’s wide range of artistic talent has always interested me, from his concept sketch drawings to the 3D models he created for animation. Olivia O’Connor has just completed the final year of her Textile Design Course at the Edinburgh College of Art. I wanted to create a luxurious and tactile collection that gave the essence of the collected bird skins through my textiles, almost recreating the trophied taxidermy in furnishings and accessories.” (via Textile Design Graduate Olivia O’Connor | Design Juices)
